head-eye tracker

Summary

Historically, head motion tracking and eye tracking have been confined to the laboratory. Recent advances both in video-based eye tracking and inside-out motion estimation have allowed for the creation of relatively portable eye tracking and head tracking devices. Here, we propose a hardware and software framework that allows for creating a usable device capable of robust simultaneous head and eye tracking. Our platform is based largely on commercially available devices for eye tracking (Pupil Core) and head tracking (Intel RealSense T265), and all relevant software and hardware files are open source and freely available. We demonstrate the ability of our device to capture relevant joint head-eye behaviors both inside the lab and outside the lab.
